CHESAPEAKE

The Centerville Turnpike Bridge will be closed today for repair work.

The span will close at 9:30 a.m. and also will close Centerville Turnpike between Butts Station and Mount Pleasant roads, a city news release says. The road and bridge are expected to reopen about 3:30 p.m. or earlier if the work is completed before then.

Drivers can use the Chesapeake Expressway or Kempsville Road as alternate routes.

Centerville Turnpike Bridge

The bridge was closed yesterday, and the police officer who has been there for weeks now did a great job of directing traffic at Butts Station Road. However, the real traffic jam was at the corner of Kempsville Road and Battlefield. It took me more than 30 minutes to get from the light at Clearfield to the right turn onto Battlefield. Perhaps a traffic office at that instersection might have been able to help.

The bridge was closed all

The bridge was closed all day yesterday with no warning. What a pain in the ars.

Article left something out

Keep in mind the Chesapeake Expressway past Hillcrest going south or entering Virginia going north has a $2 toll.

Not really relevant

The portion of the Expressway that would be used to detour around this closure -- the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway -- is not tolled.
