Nguyen Tanh burns a folded sheet of paper on which the names of family and friends who have passed away are written. This is one of the traditions the monks and worshipers at Dong Hung Temple in Virginia Beach follow during the celebration of the Vietnamese New Year – Tet in Vietnamese. “It is to remind us of who we come from,” Thich Chuc Thanh said. “A celebration of our ancestors.”
