COROLLA, N.C.
A vacant house in Ocean Hill was destroyed by fire late Monday.
Corolla volunteer firefighters responded to the 1200 block of Atlantic Avenue just after 10 p.m. as flames quickly consumed the structure, said Bob Wemyss, station manager at Corolla Fire & Rescue. The house was being renovated. No one was injured, he said.
A home next door at 1249 Atlantic Ave. sustained minor damages. The address of the burned house was not available. The cause of the fire had not been determined this morning.
Neighbor Karen McCalpin first saw the fire as she let her dog outside just before bed, she said.
“The sky was orange,” she said. “It was an incredibly hot fire. I was shocked at how fast it went up.”
