A small plane carrying the mayor's husband was forced to make an emergency landing Thursday at the Suffolk Executive Airport after its landing gear failed.

Its nose pointed toward the grass-covered ground, the plane landed safely and without injuries at 12:30 p.m.

The Piper airplane had left the airport at 9:45 a.m. on the way to Cambridge, Md., for a business trip.

George McClellan of McClellan Aviation Services had tried to land in Cambridge but returned to Suffolk after the nose landing gear failed, according to a news release.

The only passenger in the plane was Jesse Johnson Jr., a Suffolk attorney and husband of Mayor Linda Johnson.
