A 41-year-old woman has been accused of stabbing her 16-year-old daughter multiple times in the back while the girl was asleep before stabbing herself.

Rhonda Lynn Hingerty, 41, was arrested after the teen's grandparents called police about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Debbie George, the city's interim chief of staff. The girl was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and was expected to live, George said.

Hingerty stabbed herself in the stomach and legs and was being treated.
