PORTSMOUTH

A substitute teacher was arrested as she was leaving school Friday evening, according to a news release.

Tena Lin Neese Artise, 22, was charged with burglary, abduction/kidnapping and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony from an incident that occurred Oct. 21.

Artise, of the 800 block of Brighton St., worked at Douglas Park Elementary School.

A 14-year-old was home alone and told police she heard a knock on the rear door of her house.

When she opened the door, a woman walked in and pointed a gun at her. A second woman stood in the open door but didn’t enter the house.

The women left after finding no one else in the house.

Artise was identified as the woman who entered the house with the gun, police said.

Police say the motive was money owed Artise.

It is not clear whether the teenager was one of Artise's students or if Artise was still employed by Portsmouth Public Schools.
