Sailboat builder to bring 71 jobs to Dare County, N.C.

A maker of high-end sailboats plans to bring a new shipyard to Wanchese and create 71 jobs in Dare County.

According to a news release from Gov. Bev Perdue's office, Gunboat Company will invest more than $1.8 million in Wanchese during the next three years. The company received a $213,000 grant from a state fund meant to attract businesses that will bring jobs and economic opportunities.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $27,093, plus benefits, the release said. The average annual wage in Dare County is $24,128.

Gunboat Company produces yachts that combine advanced racing technology with luxurious interiors, according to its website. Gunboat is a sister company of Gunboat International, which is based in Rhode Island.
