A child playing with matches started an apartment fire Sunday that displaced six people in the 100 block of Burleigh Ave., fire investigators said.
The blaze, which was reported shortly after 4 p.m., was under control in about 15 minutes, according to Battalion Chief Harry Worley, Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman.
The fire was contained to a closet in the second-floor apartment where it started, but smoke damaged the apartment below it, according to Worley.
The American Red Cross of Southeastern Virginia provided food, clothing and help with lodging for one adult and two children, according to an email from a spokesman.
