A Suffolk man is expected to serve four years in prison for having sex with the 13-year-old daughter of a friend, prosecutors said.
Circuit Court Judge William R. Savage III sentenced John Walter Cobb on Monday to 50 years in prison on five counts of carnal knowledge of a minor. With 30 years suspended and the remaining time running concurrently, Cobb, 22, is expected to spend about four years behind bars, prosecutors said.
Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney T. Marie Walls said Cobb pleaded guilty to having sexual relations with the teenager during a six-month period while he was staying at the girl's home. Walls said the girl's mother had offered to let him stay there.
"She treated him like her own son," Walls said.
Under the judge's order, Cobb was to serve indeterminate supervised probation upon release and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
