Three professors from Norfolk State, Old Dominion and Hampton universities are recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Faculty Awards announced today from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Rasha Morsi, assistant professor of engineering at Norfolk State, Steve Yetiv, professor of political science and international studies at Old Dominion, and Zina McGee, professor of sociology at Hampton University, were three of 12 selected from a pool of 125 applicants.
The winners will be recognized during a Feb. 16 ceremony at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. Each will receive an engraved award and a $5,000 check underwritten by the Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources.

The entire process that
The entire process that leads to an "award" is controlled by those who could receive an award. It does not appear that one person outside the "inner circle" of academia provides one iota of input. For all we know, it could have been a popularity contest. Probably was.
A review of history of these awards revels that the recipients are skewed to appear to be politically correct.
The award are a public relations arm of Dominion Power.
Publish a blank application and a completed application of each recipient. Then and only then will the public understand if the award is worth anything they care about.
