Traffic: Crashes cause delays on 264, Monitor-Merrimac

The southbound lanes of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel were closed because of a traffic crash.

Another crash also closed a portion of Interstate 264 east in Portsmouth near the Downtown Tunnel, the Virginia Department of Transportation said.

No details about the crashes were available.

Traffic backups on the Monitor-Merrimac were nearly 3 miles long shortly before 5 p.m. and traffic was backed up on I-264 about a mile.

A disabled vehicle in the westbound lane of the Midtown Tunnel was also slowing traffic, VDOT said on its website.
