Train hits truck in Elizabeth City; no injuries reported

Posted to: News Traffic - Transportation North Carolina

ELIZABETH CITY

A slow moving train struck a truck at 10 a.m. Friday on Richardson Street with no injuries.

A man turned from U.S. 17 Business onto Richardson Street and onto the tracks before realizing a train was coming, said Lt. John Etheridge of the Elizabeth City Police Department. The train struck the truck on the passenger side, he said. The man was not seriously injured. His name would be released later, Etheridge said.

A railroad track runs through Elizabeth City parallel to U.S. 17 not far from the pavement. Trains move slowly along the route. Richardson Street is not a major road and the railroad intersection does not have red lights or gate, only a crossing sign.

I wish the papers would get

I wish the papers would get it right...the TRUCK HIT the TRAIN!!!

The train is on tracks, can't go anywhere else and can't stop on a dime.

Give the truck driver a ticker, that should at least keep him from doing it again.

No the train still struck

No the train still struck the truck. The truck turned in front of the train which resulted in the train stricking the truck on the side. Even though the train is on tracks it is capable of stricking/hitting objects.
