Urban League honors four local leaders for service

VIRGINIA BEACH

The Urban League of Hampton Roads honored four leaders on Monday at the 28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leaders' Service Awards Breakfast.

Those honored were: Maurice Jones, the first African American publisher of Landmark Media Enterprises LLC, which owns The Virginian-Pilot; Curtis Langley, Norfolk State University professor emeritus and civic volunteer; Julie Hill, founder and director of Outreach Africa: Lost Boys Foundation; and Mae Breckenridge-Haywood, who led the African American Historical Society of Portsmouth in its restoration of the Portsmouth Community Library.

The breakfast was held at The Founders Inn and Spa at Regent University.
