A leader of a Portsmouth gang has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for his role in illegal activities in southeastern Virginia.

U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride says 23-year-old Draindell Domonta Bassett Jr. of Portsmouth was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Norfolk.

Bassett pleaded guilty in August to participating in a pattern of racketeering activity that included conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to distribute narcotics.

Court documents show Bassett and other members of the Bounty Hunter Bloods gang tried to hunt down a rival gang member.

Hello out there????

There have been many negative news articles and negative comments about the police. It is easier to criticize I guess. I have been watching Portsmouth Police putting gang member after gang member in prison over the recent years. They seem to be leading the way. I want to say thank you to those involved. Your hard work is being noticed! I wonder how many lives you have saved. So THANK YOU PORTSMOUTH!!!
