NORFOLK

Fire destroyed a vacant home this morning in the 2300 block of Ruffin St.

Firefighters who were called to the home about 1:20 a.m. found heavy flames at the home when they arrived, said Battalion Chief Harry Worley, Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman. They had to back out of the home when conditions became too dangerous.

They poured water on the house and protected other homes nearby to make sure the flames did not spread. The fire was under control about 2:40 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
