CHESAPEAKE

A woman and two children were displaced from their home in the 2000 block of Sunset Maple Lane after the wind whipped up flames that burned the garage, half the house and two cars parked in the driveway.

Two dogs were found dead inside the Deep Creek home, but no other injuries were reported.

Chesapeake firefighters were called to the neighborhood about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after the resident opened the garage and found the fire, said Capt. Mike Thibeault, a fire department spokesman. Heavy winds quickly moved the fire to other parts of the house and to the two cars in the driveway. The radiating heat from the house fire melted some siding off a neighboring dwelling.

Half of the house and the garage had significant fire damage. The rest of the house had moderate smoke damage.
