KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C.
Three people were arrested in connection with the manufacture of methamphetamine inside a motel room.
After extensive surveillance, Sammy Pleasant Bowles Jr., 50, Joseph James Forbes Jr., 41, and Beverly Lynne Howell, 43, were arrested at the motel on N.C. 12 in Kill Devil Hills on Feb. 1. They were each charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a Dare County Sheriff’s news release said.
Bowles of Christiansburg was being held at the Dare County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. Forbes and Howell, of Kill Devil Hills, were each released on a $1,000 secured bond.
The news release said the manufacture method in the motel room used a small quantity of chemicals and confined the ingredients to one container, such as a 2-liter soda bottle or something of similar size.
The incident was reported to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation so that the area could be reviewed for hazardous conditions with regard to chemicals used, but the sheriff’s news release said no hazardous-materials response was necessary.
The sheriff’s office worked on the investigation with officers from Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
