BODIE ISLAND, N.C.
A controlled burn will begin today in the Bodie Island District of Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The burn will include about 1,000 acres west of N.C. 12 from Oregon Inlet north to the lighthouse area, according to a news release from the National Park Service.
The lighthouse access road will be closed temporarily.
Park visitors and residents who live near the area will see smoke.
