Former Norfolk Tides pitcher Clay Rapada and the Yankees agreed to a minor-league deal Saturday. The former Deep Creek left-hander received an invitation to spring training and is expected to complete for a major-league roster spot as a specialist out of the bullpen.

Rapada, who will turn 31 on March 9, has held lefties to a .153 average during his career - including .090 over the past two seasons. Rapada split time last season between the Baltimore Orioles (2-0, 6.06 ERA in 32 games) and the Tides (0-1, 3.92 in 26 games).

When Baltimore acquired two relievers from Colorado in exchange for starter Jeremy Guthrie on Feb. 6, Rapada was designated for assigment. Last Wednesday, he was released.

Originally signed by the Cubs as an undrafted free agent in 2002, Rapada has compiled a career 5.13 ERA with a 5-0 record in 78 appearances with Chicago (2007), the Tigers (2007-09), the Rangers (2010) and Baltimore.
