Dig the scene at Zion Christian, it will be happening

Well, I didn’t flip my lid, but I did take another drink of mud when I saw what Zion Christian Church had planned for Black History Month.

Glenda Copeland and some other creative parishioners are busy putting the finishing touches on a fashion show that focuses on key parts of history through six decades, beginning with the ’40s.

The Quaker Drive church’s program next Sunday at 3 p.m. will have three models for each decade. Interspersed with the fashion show commentary will be nuggets about what TV shows and music were popular during that era. They have three skits planned as well.

Being a word guy, I wanted Glenda to tell me about slang the audience will hear.

Back in the ’40s, for instance, mud meant coffee; and if you told someone you were going fishing, it may have meant you were going to look for a date.

When describing a cute girl, we went from saying baby or hot chick in the ’50s to fox in the ’70s. The word Glenda referenced from the ’80s was bimbette and if you really liked her you might have said bomb diggity! The ’90s brought us slammin - and 20-inch rims.

Cool cats might find this bash a real gas.
