Eustis soldiers home from year in Afghanistan

After serving for a year in Afghanistan, about 200 soldiers from Fort Eustis are returned today.

The troops were assigned to the headquarters of the 7th Sustainment Brigade’s Special Troops Battalion and the brigade headquarters' command element, and were based out of Kandahar airfield in southern Afghanistan.

According to an Army news release, the battalion was responsible for supplying three regional commands across Afghanistan, which included distributing 975 million gallons of water, 470 million gallons of fuel, and airdropping more than 15,000 bundles of commodities.

The brigade is led by Col. Lawrence Kominiak and Command Sgt. Maj. Tony Escalona.
