A breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Deep Creek Ruritan Club House, 200 Luray St., to help defray the burial expenses of Carolyn "Cee Cee" Walker.

The 12-year-old Deep Creek Middle School student died Jan. 10after being shot in the head. A 13-year-old boy has been charged in the case. She was buried Jan. 17 but her funeral expenses still need to be paid, said Mike Kirsch, a member of the sponsoring Deep Creek Ruritan Club.

"Every bit we raise will go to the family," he said. "They did bury her during a funeral service but the expenses are still there."

The breakfast, hosted by the Hugo Owens Ruriteens, will include pancakes, eggs, sausage,  juice and coffee. Tickets are $6 per person.

"We didn't know her, we don't know the family but they're part of our community and this was such a tragedy that affects us all," Kirsch said. "We just wanted to do something to help."

Donations, payable to the Deep Creek Ruritan Club, can be mailed to P.O. Box 6934, Chesapeake, VA, 23323. Call (757) 617-3713 for more details.
