NASCAR driver parked after DUI charge

Posted to: NASCAR

According to NASCAR.com, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard said trucks driver John Wes Townley will be replaced in the No. 09 Toyota Tundra because of a recent arrest on a DUI charge.

Townley, pictured left, will be out until his return is deemed appropriate.

"Obviously, this is an unfortunate situation," said Robby Benton, owner of RAB Racing with Brack Maggard. "However, we have to react to the severity of the incident accordingly. His actions do not reflect those of RAB Racing, nor the sponsors associated with the team.

"John Wes has accepted full responsibility, and will take the necessary personal steps in order to correct his actions, among other internal sanctions," Benton continued. "We stand by John Wes, and will welcome him back to the team at the appropriate time."

According to a police report in the Athens Banner-Herald, an Oconee County, Ga., deputy responded to a report Tuesday night of “a suspicious man knocking on the back door of a home. The man was disoriented and seemed intoxicated.”

The man “was swaying from side to side and bleeding from his bare feet,” according to the report. Townley's 2012 BMW, which had struck a telephone pole, was not too far away.

Townley, of Watkinsville, Ga., was charged with DUI and weaving in the road.

The 22-year-old has 38 Nationwide starts and seven trucks series starts since 2008, but none last year. His best finish was 15th at the Nationwide race at Las Vegas in Feburary 2010.
