Navy dependents eligible for college scholarships

Two foundations are accepting scholarship applications from Navy family members.

The Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation annually sponsors more than 40 scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $10,000.

The awards are for dependents, children and spouses. Sponsors should be active duty, retired, honorably discharged, living or deceased, and have served at least eight years in units under the administrative control of Naval Air Forces. The years need not be consecutive.

Applicants must attend an accredited four-year college or university and intend to pursue a bachelor's degree full time. Spouse applicants may be pursuing an associate's degree, part time. Applicants may be a high school senior or a college student in an accredited school or equivalent educational institution.

Pre-qualification applications must be postmarked by March 1. Scholarship applications must be postmarked by April 1. Details: www.wingsoveramerica.us.

The Anchor Scholarship Foundation awarded 34 $2,000 scholarships in 2011.

Surface Navy dependents are eligible. The sponsor should be active duty or retired with a minimum of six years in units under the administrative control of the Atlantic or Pacific Naval Surface Forces. The six years need not be consecutive.

Applicants must attend an accredited, four-year college or university and intend to pursue a bachelor's degree full time. They may be a high school senior or a college student in an accredited school or equivalent educational institution. Eligibility applications must be received by March 1 and scholarship applications are due March 15.
