N.C. representatives unite to call for end to war

RALEIGH, N.C.

The war in Afghanistan has made for strange political bedfellows in North Carolina's congressional delegation, with a conservative Republican joining two liberal Democrats in calling for the withdrawal of U.S. troops.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that Republican U.S. Rep. Walter Jones joined Democrats Brad Miller and David Price at a meeting at the capital Monday where the three urged the Obama administration to leave Afghanistan.

About 150 people at the Legislative Building gave Jones a standing ovation after an emotional speech recounting his visit to three disabled Marines at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Jones, Miller and Price say they often disagree on policy issues, but say the war transcends partisan divisions. Jones' participation was criticized by his Republican primary opponent, Frank Palombo.

Ahem

What about the war happening right here in our own front yard? You know, the 'War on Drugs' - If you want to talk about a longstanding failure in policy for oh, the last 4 or so administrations, then theres your sign.

Jimmy Carter had the right idea, but one of his top aides had to go and hose that all up.
