Perennial attempts to relax Virginia’s rules on absentee voting were shot down today in a House of Delegates subcommittee.
Three bills seeking to widen access to absentee ballots were all tabled by the panel, meaning they will advance no further.
HB786 from Del. Alfonso Lopez, D-Arlington County, would have allowed any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot in person without having to claim any of the excuses enumerated in current law, such as illness, job-related absence and military service.
HB309 from Del. Annie B. Crockett-Stark, R-Wythe County, and HB669 from Del. Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax County, would have allowed no-excuse absentee voting by anyone 65 or older.
“Some of us get a few cricks in our joints at 65, but we still want to vote,” Crockett-Stark told the panel.
The measures were tabled with no discussion on a motion by Del. Chris Jones, R-Suffolk, a longtime opponent of relaxing the absentee voting law.

Let's just cut to the chase and allow voting by phone.
Since there is "no significant evidence of voter fraud," and getting a photo ID is just too much of a burden, and filing for an absentee ballot claiming any of the excuses enumerated in current law is too much of a pain, and getting to the polls on Election Day is too hard for some people ... let's just phone it in and be done with it!
Republican voter suppression
Republicans want to restrict voting to white male land owners.
Hmmmm....
I'm white and don't own land so I guess I'm screwed too huh? Maybe we should go back to having to own land to vote. Would take care of all the welfare babies learning to vote more tax money from us every year.
Bonkers
You are either trolling or quite mad. The truly disturbing thing is how many "fellow travelers" you seem to have.
We read an article where Dems try to make it easier to commit voter fraud and you make another statement that has precisely nothing to do with reality.
