NORFOLK

The city is enjoying stronger sales tax collections this fiscal year, but with the increased revenue comes rising expectations.

So far, the city is up 3.2 percent - about $460,000 - for the fiscal year, according to a city memorandum. Furthermore, the city is also up 3.2 percent for the calendar year, with the monthly revenues staying in the black every month since December 2010 except September.

"That means I have to have higher growth... for the remainder of this fiscal year," City Manager Marcus Jones said Tuesday.

"So, while we're optimistic, the reality is we have" a tough task ahead in increasing the sales taxes this year over strong monthly gains of the past calendar year, he said.

I Know Why

The increase is probably due to the Gestapo tactics of the Virginia Beach police. I know quite a few people that refuse to go to Virginia Beach to shop, eat or drink because of the heavy handed tactics of the police department. I can say personally I stopped going there in December after an incident with a police officer. No speeding, drinking, DUI or anything else was involved, just some power hungry dweeb deciding he wanted to be a jerk. In my instance alone it has probably cost VB businesses $5,000. I refuse to go there even with friends. All of us meet somewhere else now, just anywhere other than VB. Wake VB businesses, get the so-called police department under control.

Well of course

They are paid to protect and serve THEIR interests by enforcing (making up) the victimless crimes at every turn. I too have witnessed and written about these types of incidents involving even pedestrians and bicyclists for some time now. Rather than going off to some other place that could involve the same sort of tactics in the future, perhaps just say NO by refusing consent, asking questions, and non-cooperating as much as possible.

Have other people with you if possible who can video record these incidents since police cams are notorious for mysteriously not working at certain times.

ok

Sounds like every other story one hears in court these days. "I was just standing there minding my own bidness...."
