Strong Is The New Skinny

Passion Sparks A New Interest

Ever since my wife and I returned from the IKFF Nationals in Detroit last November, we've noticed an increase in the amount of participants we have for the kettlebell class at the gym. I brought this up to a business colleague of mine the other day and it got us thinking. Why the sudden surge of interest in kettlebell sport?

Looking back, I realized that before the competition in Detroit, I probably presented kettlebell sport class at Meyer Fitness as just another class we have on our schedule. People at the gym probably looked at it and said why do I want to throw a weight around that kind of hurts my hand and may give me bruises on my forearms? Knowing that information, I imagine it was pretty tough to get people interested in the class, however, now it's pretty different.

What Lauren and I brought home from the Detroit trip was passion in its simplest form.

People get infected by passion, not by information.

If someone sees that you don't just offer something or consider yourself an expert in something, yet see the actual passion one has for a sport or actiivity, it's much more likely that they'll want to try it out. And that's exactly what's happened in 2012. What went from being our least populated class just a few months ago, has become something that's blogged about, tweeted, and talked about in the community around the gym. It feels really good to know that passion for something is the great motivator for others to continue to change their lives.

Last night some of the kettlebell gang attempted and completed their first ever 10 minute Long Cycle set and while coaching them all through it, I couldn't help but notice the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.

Here's a quick snippit from their set, enjoy and see you Thursday for class!!!
