A Perquimans County man, imprisoned four previous times for drug and firearms violations, was arrested at his home in Hertford today and accused of trafficking cocaine worth more than $18,000.

Walter Allen Norman, 29, of Goodwin Mill Road, was placed under a $1.5 million bond in the Albemarle District Jail, according to a statement from Pat Forbis, an agent with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. Norman is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Norman has been imprisoned four other times on drug and firearm convictions, Forbis said. His last release from supervision was in January 2011.

ALE worked with the State Bureau of Investigation, the Perquimans County and Chowan County sheriff’s offices and the Plymouth Police Department. ALE seized the 18-ounce block of cocaine and four firearms from Norman’s home.

Norman had recently moved from Chowan County to Perquimans County. Complaints about drug activity had been coming to Perquimans Sheriff Eric Tilley, Forbis said.
