Road closings and traffic conditions in Norfolk next week

DOWNTOWN

Bank Street – Through September, the sidewalk and bus parking lane northbound on Bank between East Plume Street and East City Hall Avenue will be closed. Pedestrians will be detoured to the westbound sidewalk, and tour buses will be detoured to East City Hall. Through mid-March, the sidewalk and parking lane on Bank between Freemason and Charlotte streets will be closed for brick sidewalk and street light installation. Flaggers will maintain traffic.

Boush Street – Through mid-February, watch as the northbound turn lane on Boush at West Brambleton Avenue is closed 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. daily for utility work.

East City Hall Avenue – Through early March, the sidewalk on East City Hall between Bank and Court streets will be closed for safety during the MacArthur Memorial Renovations. Pedestrian detours will be posted.

The Tide – The HRT light rail between York Street station and EVMC station (Brambleton Avenue) will be shut down from 9 p.m. today through early Sunday for service work.

Main Street – Watch for intermittent traffic stoppages on East Main from Boush Street to St. Paul's Boulevard for crosswalk installation on favorable weather days through mid-March.

East Plume Street – Through June, the sidewalk on East Plume westbound between Court and Bank streets will be closed. Pedestrians will be detoured to the eastbound sidewalk on the south side of East Plume. Access to MacArthur Memorial will be maintained.

St. Paul's Boulevard – One vehicle lane and sidewalk on St. Paul's between Plume Street and City Hall Avenue will be closed through the end of February for utility work.

York Street – Through the end of February, there will be alternating lane and sidewalk closures in the 100 block of York for utility work.

CITYWIDE

36th Street – Through mid-July, 36th between Colley and Newport avenues will be closed for utility work.

38th Street – Through mid-March, 38th between Powhatan and Parker avenues will be closed to through traffic for utility work. Through mid-March, 38th between Granby Street and Omohundro Avenue will be closed to through traffic for utility work.

East Bayview Boulevard – Flaggers will maintain traffic on East Bayview between Inlet Road and Cape View Avenue for utility work through mid-February.

East Brambleton Avenue – Watch for alternating lane closures through the end of March on East Brambleton at the I-264 underpass for bridge painting. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday to Thursday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Friday and Saturday 7 p.m. to noon; and Sundays 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

West Brambleton Avenue – West Brambleton will be reduced to one lane eastbound between Botetourt and Duke streets for light rail service work. The lane reductions will begin today through Sunday. Westbound West Brambleton will not be affected. Motorists are encouraged to use East Princess Anne and Olney roads as alternatives.

Chesapeake Street – Through the end of May, Chesapeake Street will be closed to through traffic between Chesapeake Boulevard and Modoc Avenue for utility work.

Diven Street – Through mid-April, Diven will be closed to through traffic between East Little Creek Road and Terminal Boulevard. Traffic will be detoured to Hampton Boulevard via Terminal and West Little Creek Road.

Ethel Avenue – Through the end of April, vehicle travel lanes and sidewalk on Ethel will be closed for utility work. Vehicle and pedestrian detours will be posted accordingly. Flaggers will be used as needed.

First View Street – Through mid-April, there will be full street closures to through traffic on First View between Bearden Road and Tidewater Drive for the First View Street Water and Sewer Replacement Project. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained.

Georgia Avenue – Through the end of February, Georgia between Gosnold and Newport avenues will be closed to through traffic for utility work.

Gosnold Avenue – Through early-July, the intersection of 36th Street and Gosnold will be closed for utility work.

Granby Street – Watch for alternating lane closures north and southbound on Granby between East Princess Anne Road and East 13th Street for utility work. Through late April, two vehicle travel lanes in the same direction will be closed on Granby over Mason Creek between Bayview Boulevard and Forest Lawn Cemetery for a phase of the Mason Creek Culvert Rehabilitation project. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Hampton Boulevard – A northbound lane and sidewalk on Hampton between Helena Avenue and West Little Creek Road will be closed for utility work through early February.

East Indian River Road – Through early February, East Indian River between Fauquier and Lansing streets will be closed to unload steel frames for Colonna Shipyard.

Kimball Terrace – Through late Saturday, the intersection of Kimball Terrace and Majestic Avenue will be completely closed to through traffic for utility work. Motorists will be detoured via Westminster Avenue, Norchester Street and Thayor Street. Local access only will be encouraged during this time. Cut-through motorists must use Interstate 264 or Virginia Beach Boulevard as alternative routes.

East Little Creek Road – The westbound outside lane on East Little Creek between Elton and Old Ocean View avenues will be closed through mid-February for utility work.

West Little Creek Road – One outside lane on West Little Creek between Cortlandt Place and Lambert Place will close for utility work through late February.

Longdale Road – Eastbound Longdale Drive between Tanners Creek Road and North Military Highway will be closed through late January for utility work.

Mason Creek Road – Flaggers will maintain traffic between West Ocean View Avenue and A View Street through early February for utility work.

Monroe Place – Flaggers will maintain traffic on Monroe Place between Bedford and Manchester avenues through early March for utility work.

West Ocean View Avenue – Through mid-February, the vehicle lane and sidewalk on West Ocean View between 1st View and Mason Creek Road will be closed for improvements. Through early March, vehicle lanes on West Ocean View between Chesapeake Boulevard and Sturgis Street will be closed for utility work.

West Olney Road – A section of West Olney will be closed to through traffic through late March for utility work. Through traffic will be detoured to Wilson Road to Granby Street.

St. Julians Avenue – Through late July, St. Julians at Roberts Road will be closed for track installation by Norfolk Southern Corp. Traffic will be detoured to adjacent streets.

Sewells Point Road – Lane closure at multiple locations along Sewells Point between Robin Hood and Azalea Garden roads will occur through the end of February for utility work. Flaggers will maintain traffic on Sewells Point at Greenwood Street through early April for water line replacement.

Southampton Avenue – Through late February, Southampton will be one-way westbound between Colley and Riverview avenues during a utility and streetscape upgrade project.

Tidewater Drive – Through the end of February, there will be single alternating lane closures in both directions on Tidewater  between Goff Street and I-264 for roadway repairs. Through early February, Tidewater between Columbia Lane and Alsace Avenue will be reduced to one lane northbound during the day and two lanes will remain open overnight. Through early February, watch for lane closings on Tidewater between Columbia and Alsace avenues for sewer main installation.

USAA Drive – Through early February, USAA will experience outside southbound lane closures between Elizabeth Avenue and Northampton Boulevard for utility work.

Wesleyan Drive – Through the end of February, lane closures along Wesleyan east of Northampton Boulevard will occur for utility work.
