PERQUIMANS COUNTY, N.C.
A 19-year-old construction worker from South Carolina was charged today in connection with the homicide of Chad Colson.
Colson’s body was found in a ditch along Holiday Island Road shortly before noon on Tuesday, said Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley. He had multiple lacerations on his upper torso and he had no wallet or cellphone. Investigators identified him by a tattoo on his leg.
Michael Helms of Myrtle Beach, S.C. was arrested today after detectives confronted some construction workers in the Holiday Island area. Tilley said Helms later spoke with the construction foreman and then investigators were called back to the site.
Tilley said the two men had gotten into an argument about a narcotics purchase.
Helms was being held at the Albemarle District Jail in Elizabeth City without bond.
