Websites That Help
It’s a lovely day! Hope everyone gets a chance to get out and enjoy it. Take your dog and have some fun even if it’s just for half an hour. I’ve found some websites you can check out on the next rainy day. Or if you’re stuck inside on a sunny day.
Are you trying to stick with your resolution to be more active and get fit? There’s an app for that. And you can get your dog to help too. Map My Dog Walk is available from iTunes. This app was developed by Subaru. It helps you map your walk, keep data of speed, pace, distance, and elevation. There’s too much to list here. Check it out at www.mapmywalk.com.
You need to see the “Every Dog, Dog Show.” Pedigree will donate a bowl of food to shelters every time this video is viewed. Their goal is 500,000 views. Check it out at www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-g0B3s7kPk.
Lady Marie Bear needs our help. This therapy dog was seized illegally by a Nelson County Animal Control officer. There’s a petition to sign at www.thepetitionsite.com/1/save-lady-marie-bear/. You can read her story at www.lifewithdogs.tv/2012/02/innocent-dog-seized-held-for-execution-in-virginia/.
HBO is running a series called “Luck” about the darker side of horse racing. Two horses have died already during filming because no one in charge would listen to PETA’s suggestions or contact American Humane for any guidance. We can let them know that this is wrong and these deaths can be prevented. You can sign the petition at www.thepetitionsite.com/2/prevent-future-horse-deaths-on-hbo-series/.
Fella, the retired show horse at Web of Life Animal Outreach, still needs our help. He’s getting treatment for an eye infection. They're trying to save his eye but they need help to pay for the treatments. Send an email to Christine at kmartin5@cox.net if you can help.
Honeybun needs a foster. She’s a six year old quarter horse cross pony who has been started under saddle. Her foster is moving out of state and can’t take Honey. So, she needs a new foster by the 29th. If you can foster Honey, or know someone who can, send an email to Amy at cody1571@yahoo.com.
We need to congratulate Susan Walton. She’s affectionately known as the Doggy DA. The Animal Legal Defense Fund has listed her as one of the Top 10 Animal Defenders. This week, the 19th through the 25th, is National Justice for Animals Week and the law enforcement, prosecutors, and legislators who defend the animals in abuse cases are honored. This week is also dedicated to raising awareness and informing people of ways they can help the community achieve justice for animal victims. Susan Walton has successfully prosecuted over 100 animal abuse cases in Suffolk. You can read her story at www.suffolknewsherald.com/2012/02/20/walton-earns-animal-defense-award/.
That’s all for today. Get out with your dog and have fun even if it’s just for a little while before it gets dark.
