DAYTON, Ohio
An Ohio building constructed around the first Wright brothers' bicycle shop has been declared a public nuisance and may eventually be demolished, despite a resident's effort to preserve the site.
A city planner tells the Dayton Daily News three walls of the bike shop stand inside the former Gem City Ice Cream building in Dayton.
The Wright brothers ran the shop in the late 1800s, before their pioneering flight.
An assistant city manager says the structure didn't have enough "historic integrity" to be declared a Wright site but was included on the National Register of Historic Places as part of a larger historic district.
Resident Michael Perkins is fighting to preserve the building, but the city says it hasn't been able to find a developer to fund the redevelopment.

Wright Brothers' Bike Shop
I have to agree with ltcwb. It is an excellent idea and seeing that the shop is part of OUR history it should be preserved and not destroyed.

Perhaps a photo would be appropriate here. Just the article seems to lack context.
Birthplace of Flight?
I remember a little tiff that occured years ago after North Carolina put "First in Flight" on their license plates. Ohio quickly put "Birthplace of Flight" on theirs. Now we have a beautiful museum and historical landmark down in Kitty Hawk to honor the Wright Brothers, and yet their "birthplace" can't seem to be able to preserve their bicycle shop. I agree with a previous post....disassemble it and set it up down in Kitty Hawk, where it WILL be preserved, and not destroyed.
Building
Dismantle and ship to Kitty Hawk, NC, where the Wright
Brothers Memorial is....
ABSOLUTELY!
If the Park Service can squander all the money they do on squelching the citizens' rights to drive on the beach and protecting a bird that isn't endangered then they can pony up (pun intended)some of the permit money for relocating and protecting something that actually has value!

I believe you mean privileges, not rights...
Agree
Well put.
