Shuffle Demons - 'ClusterFunk'

Canada has another export to join its cold fronts, hockey and Mounties as the Great White North sends us booty-shaking, tongue-in-cheek jazz-funk from the sax-driven quintet Shuffle Demons.

The group, blowing three saxes bolstered by a rock-solid funky rhythm section, has been around for close to three decades, spreading its blend of funk, free-jazz and humor throughout the world. This latest album simply reinforces the band’s patented sound.

Most tunes sport infectious funk melodies spiced by goofy lyrics or wry observations about modern life. The solos and instrumental passages cook with post-bop riffing and tight-as-a-tick funk patterns.

For fresh jazz-funk rhythms and cool, droll finger-snapping songs, these demons will shuffle you into a tight clusterfunk.
