Kathy Bates nears 'American Horror Story' deal

Kathy Bates, who hit celebrity status in 1990 as Annie Wilkes in the film adaptation of Stephen King's "Misery," may return to the horror thriller genre with a small-screen role in the upcoming third season of "American Horror Story." For fans of the show, this spells nothing but pure skin-crawling fun as Bates reportedly will play the best-friend-turned-rival of Jessica Lange's next character. If you don't remember (or weren't born yet), Bates won the Oscar for best actress for her 1990 performance in "Misery." Even if the third season of "American Horror Story" turns out less than exceptional - which many fans find completely unthinkable - the acting will have to be superb.
