Hokies get pledge from 3-star lineman

Virginia Tech got its fourth commitment for 2015 when Indianapolis defensive tackle Eric Whitehead said he'd sign next year.

The 6-foot-1, 300-pound Whitehead is a three-star prospect, according to 247 Sports, the No. 17 player in Indiana and the No. 55 defensive tackle nationally.

He had offers from several schools, mostly in the Mid-American Conference. 247 Sports had Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Toledo and Western Michigan on his offer list, although Indiana, Purdue and Louisville showed interest.

Whitehead played at Indianapolis Arsenal Tech last season, finishing with 52 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss and eight sacks.

His transfer to Lawrence Central was ruled to be primarily for athletic reasons, putting his immediate eligibilty in limbo. An appeal could come soon.
