Charlotte safety adds to Hokies defensive stockpile

Virginia Tech continues to load up on defensive players in its 2015 class.

The Hokies received a pledge Saturday from Charlotte, N.C., safety Adonis Alexander, their eighth commitment for 2015, all of which are on defense.

The 6-foot-3, 193-pound Alexander is rated as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and 247 Sports but does not appear in the top ratings in his state or at his position. He was an all-conference safety last year for Independence High.

Alexander also had offers from Wake Forest, East Carolina, Charlotte, Appalachian State and Old Dominion, according to Rivals.

Alexander is the third defensive back in the class but the first safety and by far, the biggest of the group. Mook Reynolds and DuWayne Johnson are projected as cornerbacks.
