Who is The Fuzz Band?
Singer Nakia Madry blogs about her experiences touring and performing all over the world and back home again with The Fuzz Band, an eight-member indie outfit that formed in 1997 at Hampton University.
Stranded
This has nothing to do with The Fuzz Band, but it's still interesting; I think. Today I was stranded for a little more than two hours when my car broke down in the middle of a highly traveled road in Hampton Roads (Please take note of the fact that I DID say middle of the road). Thank God for AAA, and 7 Good Samaritans who at various times helped me to push my car to the shoulder of the road, offered me a ride, and the use of a cell phone. I even received a prayer book! I would probably still be stranded if I had counted on the 5 separate police cars that sped by me without even so much as a glance in my direction.

Fuzz Band Auditions
Greetings Hampton Roads! If you haven't already heard, The Fuzz is in the midst of some major transition right now. It's a bit overwhelming and scary at times, but in all, our major shifts are always exciting! We're currently auditioning for drummers and keyboards; but if I had my way, I'd say let's forget the keyboard player and get a guitarist! If you know anyone who's talented and searching for a band family, send them our way!

A Sad Fuzzy
This past Wednesday, was the last for both Boo and BJ with The Fuzz Band. They'll be moving on to pursue their own individual dreams with no regrets, and I can't blame either one of them because it's done in love. But to sum it up in one word: sad.

Too Much For Words...
I'm just writing for the sake of writing. I'm a bit speechless; a bit broken; a bit scared, but I'm also excited for what's to come. I feel a bit selfish; a little sacrificed; a bit foolish, and a little naive. Next week we lose two. I understand, but am still confused. I'm angry because what I thought I knew is not what it turned out to be. I'm writing in riddles because I'm not quite sure I want anyone to know what I truly feel...

And then there were six...
Over the years, we've seen members come and go, but the core has always been consistent. That changes on October 14th. We love you Boo! Be safe in Atlanta, and come back soon. BJ, our keyboard player, will also be pursuing his own musical aspirations. We wish you all the best! Stay tuned as The Fuzz Band saga continues...

The Fuzz Band contemplates a name change?!?
Ok, so maybe we haven't changed our name so to speak, and maybe I'm the only one contemplating a name change, but I've been leading this campaign for several years now. Not a major change, but I think that we should just simply be The Fuzz. We've also toyed with Butt Ugly Fuzz...No seriously! Don't you think that adding the word "Band" at the end is a bit too "hokey" and "wedding band-ish"? What do you think Hampton Roads and beyond?

We Killed It!
I have always known that the band is extremely talented, but we've never truly patted ourselves on the back for a job well done. We did an amazing job at the Clips & Cool Kids concert! For those who thought the musical match was a bit odd (myself, included); we went out there, and did us. We didn't change who we were or our performance and the crowd loved it.
I think I experienced a truly star studded moment during that show. We would ask the crowd to repeat after us and they did; pump their fists, and they did; jump, and they did! There were about 2000 people in attendance, and they wanted more after we left the stage! I even forgot my earring on the stage and went back to get it while the crew was setting up for the Cool Kids to come out, and the whole audience screamed! I touched hands, posed for pictures, and received a few phone numbers while just trying to retrive my loat earring! Hah! I almost wanted to cry. I was so excited, that I called my mom and dad at 1 AM just to tell them.
We've done a lot of amazing things over the span of our careers, but there is no better reward than to truly be appreciated for you; just you. No cover tunes, just The Fuzz Band!

The Fuzz Band, The Clipse, & The Cool Kids
Yes, it may sound crazy, but it's not the first obscure combo, and I'm sure it won't be the last! I guess that's what you get when you can't focus on any ONE style of music. So if you're interests are peeked, come check out The Fuzz Band this Tuesday night at the Norva. We'll tap into our inner "hip-hop" (we won't have to tap too far) as we share the stage with VA's own The Clipse; and special guests, The Cool Kids.

Artist versus Industry
Does there exist some type of balance between maintaining your integrity as an artist and selling hits, or is it all a mirage? We often get faced with choices, and in this business, those choices usually mean selling your soul, craft, or image for a fraction of what it's worth. Does it ever end?
Did John Mayer love "No Such Thing", or was it a compromise so that he could release "Daughters" later on down the road? To that end, the record company said no, but he went with his gut and instinct and he won the coveted Grammy for Song of the Year.
Was Green Day's breakthrough "American Idiot" a blow to their punk ego, or had they finally earned the respect they deserved?
Does the compromise travel all the way to the top, or is there such a thing as "paying your dues"?
