Uno de Mayo at El Taco Loco

Every year my spouse and I try to celebrate Cinco De Mayo on May 4th to avoid the inevitable crowds on May 5th. This year we decided to celebrate last night because later in the week I will be getting ready for the Kentucky Derby which is also on the 5th of May this year.

The Freemason Abbey

My wife informed me Thursday afternoon that she had made dinner reservations at the Freemason Abbey on Boush Street in Norfolk. She had visited the glass blowing exhibit at the Chrysler Museum and had an excellent lunch at the Abbey. The restaurant is housed in an historic building that once served as a Presbyterian Church circa 1873.

Chinese New Year Feast - You have to be a Dragon

Last night my Best Half and I went to the annual Chinese New Year Feast at the Peking Duck Inn in the Fairfield Shopping Center. We attended this several years ago after we moved here, circa 2004. We had Dim Sum at the Jade Villa at Pembroke Sunday and something kicked off in my feeble brain to call the PDI and see what was up.

Clams Posillipo

Last night I made Clams Posillipo. They were delicious. I added about a half teaspoon of crushed red pepper to the recipe and I used imported Marazano Italian Plum Tomatoes. Harris Teeter had a sack of small Little Neck Clams for $10.99.
Check out these pictures and the recipe:

Taco Clueless Bell

I confess that occasionally I get a hankering for fast food namely Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza.
You've heard the old saw about "fixing things that ain't broken." Now there's a new one; "breaking things that ain't broken."
I just visited the newly remodeled Taco Bell on first Colonial Road.

Whole Foods coming to Hilltop

Whole Foods the excellent purveyor of natural and organic groceries is coming to Hilltop in the old Saturn dealership location. First Trader Joe's and now this. Does life get any better for grocery shoppers? I'm not big into organic foods as the extra protein in the bugs slows down my metabolism, but I'm willing to give them a try.

Brothers Pizza

Brothers Pizza is a new place (to me) that I stumbled upon the other day in the Renaissance Place shopping center on North Greatneck Rd. in Virginia Beach:

Upon entering I noticed a sign advertising the everyday special:

I am an easy sell and here is what arrived:

Peking Duck Inn

Early in the last decade (circa 2003) we had the pleasure of attending a prix fee Chinese multi course Chinese New Year's dinner at the Peking Duck Inn. It is located in the Fairfield Shopping Center off Kempsville Road. Recently something flashed into my old brain and I remembered this dinner and proceeded to locate and call inquiring about whether this event still took place.
