WVEC hit with third wave of layoffs in six months

WVEC-TV Channel 13 this week suffered its third wave of layoffs in the past six months, its general manager said today.

Jim Berman, the president and general manager, declined to say how many jobs were cut, citing the policy of the station’s owner, Belo Corp. But Berman said that those affected lost their jobs Monday and that none was an on-air personality.

Lake Edward teen job fair moved to Saturday

VIRGINIA BEACH Wesley Waites hoped to link a hundred Lake Edward teens with summer employers last Saturday. He didn't bank on the rain.

The Teen Job Fair has been rescheduled for this Saturday in the pool area of Baker Crossing Apartments. The event will run from 1 to 5:30 p.m., rain or shine.

Waites, a neighborhood activist, said the job fair has evolved from its original purpose.

Portsmouth Pet Dairy plant to close, eliminating 100 jobs

PORTSMOUTH Dean Foods Co., citing efforts to hold down costs and bolster efficiency, said Monday that it will shut its Pet Dairy plant on Turnpike Road in August and let go of about 100 employees there.
