CHESAPEAKE Winning never gets old for the Oscar Smith football team. "It's our job to win championships, so it never gets old," said Tigers coach Richard Morgan after the Tigers' 47-17 win over No. 6 Great Bridge on Friday at Colon L. Hall Stadium. "Hopefully we can keep it together five more weeks."
CHESAPEAKE Chesapeake will honor all members of the U.S. armed forces from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. The ceremony, sponsored by the Mayor's Commission on Veterans Affairs, will include a wreath-laying and paver installation at the Veterans' Memorial, 306 Cedar Road in the Municipal Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The North Landing Bridge at Mount Pleasant Road will be closed for two months, beginning Nov. 15, according to the city. The closure, expected to be finished by Jan. 15, 2010, will allow crews to replace the deck and make other repairs, a city news release says. The bridge crosses the Intracoastal Waterway.
If the School Board wants to renovate Indian River High School, perform technology upgrades at four other high schools, and still have the money to repair roofs and fix broken heating and air conditioning, it had better ask the City Council for extra funding now, Superintendent W. Randolph Nichols warned Thursday night.
