Scuba Diving Introduction

Scuba Diving is a safe, fun, family sport. Free introductory lessons are provided at Lynnhaven Dive Center/LDC Adventure Outfitters every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM. Our on-site indoor heated pool is the perfect place to "get your feet wet" and check out SCUBA. Ages 10 and up are invited to attend. Call (757) 481-7949 for your spot.

Steel Drum Classes

Our Pan in the Community Steelband classes are designed for both Adults and Kids to participate in beginning steelbands without needing to read music. Both classes have performance opportunities available throughout the year. All instruments and materials are provided.

Jr. Mosaic (Youth Class) SATURDAYS, 10:30AM - NOON
This beginning class is designed to serve as training for our community enrichment program, Mosaic Steel Orchestra. Kids ages 8 through 14 are eligible to participate in Jr. Mosaic. Fee: $50 (five classes)

Pans on Fire (Adult Class) MONDAYS & THURSDAYS, 7:00PM - 8:30PM
This beginning class is for primarily for adults. Some mature teens 15yrs+ may participate as well. Fee: $75 (five classes)

Registration: Registration is open. You may join the class at any time. All Classes Are Offered Year-Round!

Shooting Lessons

*It is highly recommended that participants attend a firearm Course prior to range lessons*

Pistol and Rifle lessons are available during the evenings on the week days and the weekends. Pistol lessons are $50 a lesson and Rifle Lessons are $75 a lesson.

Hampton Rods Metro Band Rehearsals

The all-volunteer Hampton Roads Metro Band invites band musicians from teens-80s to our 2011 Monday rehearsals, 7:00-9:15pm at Oaklette United Methodist Church, 520 Oaklette Dr. Chesapeake 23325.  No audition necessary.  Your own instrument required, except percussion.  Repertoire incudes marches, patriotic selections, Broadway musicals, big band favorites. Varied performance venues.

Free English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

Mary Immaculate Family Focus is excited to offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for Spanish-speaking parents. These classes are for parents who want to understand, speak, read and write English fluently, competently and proficiently in hope that this will empower them to be the
best parents they can be.

The benefits of the ESL program to the ESL learner:

  • Families benefit when parents become proficient in English, enabling them to participate in their children’s education and social lives. The family benefits when children are not required to act as interpreters for their parents, thereby preserving the family structure and parental roles.
  • ESL learners benefit from being able to read or understand safety instructions, road signs, medication instructions, and weather and safety advisories. ESL learners are able to speak to law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
  • ESL learners benefit by becoming more self-sufficient and reducing the need for translators to assist with daily or personal business. They are able to use public transportation, read street signs and directions, get a driver’s license and communicate with the public to make their needs known.
  • ESL classes prepare students to be fully engaged with their communities. Communities benefit from an increased level of inclusiveness for all community members.

These classes are offered FREE. We also provide free childcare.

NRA Instructor Workshops

 

 The NRA Instructor workshops are for anyone that has the desire to teach others in the avenue of firearms. There are numerous specialties that can be obtained through the workshops and completion/passing of the workshops will certify you as an NRA instructor for those specific specialties. The specialties we offer are:

-Pistol Instructor
-Rifle Instructor
-Shotgun Instructor
-Home Firearm Safety Instructor
-Personal Protection In the Home Instructor

You can also gain your certification as an NRA Range Safety Officer

The Basic Instructor Course must be taken first along with a specialty. Once you take and pass the instructor course you will not have to take it again unless it is a year between gaining your specialties.
