The Virginia Symphony has rescheduled two snowed-out concerts from last weekend. The Beethoven Ninth - 90th Anniversary concerts will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach.

Hampton Roads has another Grammy-winning artist.

Norfolk native and Granby High graduate Scott Travis, the drummer for the British metal band Judas Priest, was on the Grammy stage in Los Angeles on Sunday when the band won for Best Metal Performance.

This year's Grammy Awards seem to be shaping up as the battle of the blond divas.

In one corner - Beyonce, the fierce veteran who's already won a dozen Grammys but has yet to grasp the most prestigious Grammy honors - album and record of the year. She's up for those trophies and more, with a leading 10 nominations.

Some of the buzz was about the impending snowstorm, but most was about the event that would fill the hall to capacity - the 90th-anniversary concert of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

For 90 years, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra has been showing up and making a joyful noise. That's a lot of history: a lengthy roster of conductors and classical musicians, several name changes, and a gazillion performances of Beethoven and Mozart.

There aren't many local musicians who've been able to earn a good, full-time living in Hampton Roads. Guys like Joe Maniscalco are the creative, industrious and fortunate minority.
