By the first bite of breakfast, a still-warm poppy-seed scone with homemade pear-and-raspberry jam enhanced by a touch of cardamom, I was hooked.
Then came a delectable mini vegetable frittata and fresh fruit. All served on mix-and-match fine china and silverware in a formal dining room.
It's an al fresco happy hour for the suit-and-tie set. It's a play place for children. It's a farmers market. Somehow, Ynot Wednesdays? at Virginia Beach's Town Center manages to be all three. Last week, on opening day of the season, a musician doled out reggae and blues in the piazza fronting the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts.

Yes, we're aware that Charlottesville has a university and that Jefferson's Monticello is perched on a mountainside nearby. But, frankly, we came to shop, and that we did.
Charlottesville is a fun, lively town. College students abound, of course, but we saw folks of every age buzzing around.
CAMDEN COUNTY, N.C. Larry Gillus of Elizabeth City walks five or six miles three times a week through the Dismal Swamp State Park, which now includes a boardwalk that winds nearly a half mile through the wetlands. "This is dessert," he said Wednesday about halfway around the new boardwalk. "This is like a treat."
