Dog that killed N.C. boy euthanized; charges possible

HERTFORD, N.C.

The dog that killed a 10-month-old boy Tuesday evening in Hertford has been euthanized and sent to Raleigh for disease testing, according to authorities. Hertford Police Chief Douglas Freeman Jr. said Friday that he has concluded an investigation into the incident and plans to meet with District Attorney Frank Parrish on Monday to determine whether to press charges.

Chesapeake man charged with animal cruelty

PORTSMOUTH A Chesapeake man has been charged with animal cruelty after police needed to help one of his sick dogs. About 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 7, animal control was called to the 600 block of Virginia Ave., for a follow-up after complaints about pit bulls loose in the area, a Portsmouth police news release said. Two adult dogs and two puppies were seen running through the neighborhood unattended.
