VIRGINIA BEACH Virginia Beach Police Sgt. Chris Tull was alerted to a Facebook post asking for information about a dog named Chewie. Turns out the dog's former owner was the Marine Corps. Sure enough - it was his Chewie - the one he's with both on and off duty - and one of 16 within the police department's K9 unit.

Va. Beach police seek info about dead kittens, duck

VIRGINIA BEACH  Three dead kittens were found hanging inside a bag from a fence post and a mallard duck was shot with an arrow within the past two weeks. Both cases were reported June 20, according to police.

Info sought on dog that bit child in James City

NEWPORT NEWS State health officials are asking the public for information on a dog that bit a child on May 9 near the intersection of Cardinal Court and The Maine W. in James City County. The dog possibly is a Rottweiler mix, according to a news release from the Peninsula Health District.

Va. Beach couple goes to the dogs to fight cancer

Two golden retriever sisters will attend a dog-jumping contest Saturday in Virginia Beach. Their story goes paw-in-paw with the owner's charitable cause.
It started in July last year. Kempsville resident Jen Hoover took her dog, Crash, for a routine checkup when the veterinarian noticed a little bump on Crash's cheek.

Portsmouth officer kills two pit bulls fighting in cage

PORTSMOUTH A police officer shot and killed two pit bulls that were fighting in a cage Saturday, police said Monday. Officers were called to the 2300 block of Peach St. about 9 a.m. Animal Control officers were already at the residence, where a male and female pit bull in a cage inside a shed were fighting, according to a police news release.

N.C. rescue network provides hope for hopeless dogs
