Virginia Beach Council approves changes for baseball stadium

VIRGINIA BEACH The City Council voted Tuesday to approve changes to a lease for a planned professional baseball stadium. Virginia Beach Professional Baseball LLC plans to build, run and maintain a site that includes a 5,000-seat stadium, tournament fields and a sports-related commercial space near the Sportsplex in Princess Anne.

TV dance star brings his talents to Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH Cheers erupted as a white stretch limousine pulled into Golden Slippers Dance Academy's parking lot last weekend. "Here he is!" exclaimed someone in the crowd of dance enthusiasts who held a welcome sign and balloons. The limo door opened and out stepped Nico Greetham from Season 10 of the dance competition television show "So You Think You Can Dance."

Virginia Beach gets new voting system for Election Day

Voters will see a newish voting system at the ballot box on Nov. 3. The system includes paper ballots and digital scanners. It was first used during the June primary election, said Virginia Beach Voter Registrar Donna Patterson.

Maynor family continues to run, and walk, in Cheryl's memory

VIRGINIA BEACH Cheryl Maynor was a go-getter, said her son Chris Maynor. She spearheaded efforts for the first Dolphin Circle 5K Run/Walk last year, and at the same time, fought cancer. More than $10,000 was raised for the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater, a nonprofit organization that provides emotional and financial support for cancer patients.

When I was in high school, I found an old sailor's jacket at a thrift store. The white piping frayed and yellowed, it had the name "C.D. Lindsey" stitched in green cursive inside it. It was love at first sight. How oddly prophetic the jacket that spoke to me years ago ended up becoming such a huge part of my adult life.
