Chesapeake residents subpoenaed for unreturned jury duty questionnaires

CHESAPEAKE - More than 190 residents were subpoenaed to court Wednesday for failing to return jury duty questionnaires delivered to their homes. They packed a large courtroom, awaiting a lecture by a judge. They yawned, sighed, took naps, speculated on their fate, slumped, wondered out loud why they were there and did all sorts of this and that for an hour and a half.About half of those subpoenaed didn't show. Owner pleads guilty to theft of items from Norfolk pawn shop

NORFOLK - A man accused of stealing property from the pawn shop he ran pleaded guilty to 10 misdemeanor counts of petit larceny Tuesday.Ernest L. Andrews, 39, must pay fines totaling $2,500 and must pay several victims a total of $5,770 in restitution under the terms of his plea agreement. His plea agreement calls for Andrews to be sentenced to 10 years in prison, but that time will be suspended if Andrews makes the payments before his sentencing date in June. Police seek man after abduction attempt on girl at Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH - Police fanned out in neighborhoods around the Oceana Naval Air Station after a man tried to abduct a 4-year-old girl Saturday morning. Rene Ball, a police spokeswoman, said the situation began to unfold at 11:15 a.m. She said the girl was playing in a park behind her home in the 900 block of Poughkeepsie Court. High school notebook: Churchland looking for input in naming its football stadium

Churchland is seeking help in choosing a name for the school's football stadium, now known as Churchland Stadium.Those who want to participate in naming the stadium can attend one of two public hearings.
