Williamsburg - We drove directly through a rainstorm to get to Twice as Nice. When we crossed the store's threshold, it was as if the clouds had cleared.

Across the water in Newport News, a trove of satin and sparkles awaits. Blush, the only bridal consignment shop between here and Maryland, is filled with all things bridal: wedding gowns, bridesmaid gowns, flower-girl gowns, mother-of-the-bride suits, veils, tiaras, clutches, shoes, garters, jewelry and even a brocade-covered mailbox where wedding guests can deposit gifts of much-needed cash.

Think boutique. Classical music. A pleasant aroma. Garments hanging on black velvet hangers arranged by designer. Owners who help you shop. The Wardrobe in Williamsburg is like shopping in an exclusive little store, sans any hint of snobbishness, but with a fabulous selection and prices.
Ladies, pack some lunch money. On Saturday, we rated the South Hampton Roads consignment stores that sell women's clothing. But our shopping squad knows well that women will not hesitate to drive (or swim) across the Chesapeake Bay in search of a spectacular pair of sandals at a sensible price. And there's a demand for children's consignment clothing, as well.
