ODU to hold seminar for parents Saturday on paying for college

Old Dominion University will hold a free seminar Saturday morning on strategies for paying for college.

Mary Morris, the CEO of the Virginia529 College Savings Plan, will be the keynote speaker. Discussion topics will include financial aid applications and alternatives, student loan repayment, the GI Bill and the Virginia529 program.

Kirkland's to open store in Greenbrier area of Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE Kirkland’s plans to open a store Saturday at the Crossways Shopping Center in Greenbrier. The store, which offers decorative items, gifts and seasonal merchandise, will employ 35 people at 1412 Greenbrier Pkwy., Suite 119, according to a news release . The event is set for 9 a.m. The first 50 shoppers will receive a $10 Kirkland’s gift card and sachet.

Walgreens: Too soon to say if Rite Aid will continue to accept Tricare

Jim Pendergast switched to Rite Aid in 2012 when Walgreens stopped accepting Tricare, the health insurance program used by 9.5 million active-duty and retired members of the military and their families across the country.
Now Pendergast, a retired Marine who lives in Virginia Beach, wonders whether he's going to have to switch again when Walgreens acquires Rite Aid next year.

Harbor Group buys 3 apartment units

An affiliate of Harbor Group International LLC has acquired three apartment communities for more than $300 million. According to a news release issued Thursday by the company, the properties are The Grand, 564 units in Cherry Hill, N.J.; The Crest at Princeton Meadows, 704 units in Plainsboro, N.J.; and Jefferson at Orchard Pond, 748 units in Gaithersburg, Md.

Payment to ex-CEO slices Bank of Hampton Roads profit

Hampton Roads Bankshares Inc., the parent company of Bank of Hampton Roads, said Thursday its net income for the third quarter totaled $0.3 million, down from $2 million in the same quarter last year.

The Parlor on Granby closed until further notice

NORFOLK
The Parlor on Granby, an eclectic restaurant and social hot spot that helped spark revitalization in the arts district, is closed until further notice, according to a Facebook post by the business.
The Parlor is closed because of "unforeseen circumstances," the post says, adding that there will be updates.

Some Kozy Shack pudding recalled over incorrect labeling

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. Pudding maker Kozy Shack Enterprises is recalling some pudding because it was not labeled as containing eggs. The voluntary recall involves one lot of the Indulgent Recipe Pudding in a Salted Caramel cardboard sleeve that may contain Vanilla Bean Pudding cups.

Whole Foods opens store in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS Whole Foods opened a store at 12080 Jefferson Ave. this morning. The 40,000-square-foot store is located in the Marketplace at Tech Center. The celebration was set to kick off with a “bread-breaking” ceremony at 8:45 a.m., according to a news release on the company’s website.
